1. Professional Sharing

A) Shared by the WSNA organization:

Elaine Moser ; Wyoming School Nurse of the Year for 2003-2004 received a plaque from the state organization and a frame able certificate from national.

Zelma McMullen ; Wyoming School Nurse of the Year for 2003-2004 received the traveling trophy and a plaque from the state organization. She is applying for national school nurse of the year. Go Zelma!!!

Carol Boal &endash; was elected to be on the executive board for the national organization.

Suzey Delger ; went to Minnesota for the Gay/Lesbian Project. She signed up to present at the Seattle NASN Convention.

B) Individual sharing:

Sue Fabian ; has forms to share on immunization tracking and a daily log

Zelma McMullen ; has been to New York for the Johnson & Johnson National Board; WSNA in Cincinnati; International meeting in Colorado Springs and plans on going to Savannah in November for her daughter's wedding.

Alicen Hardy; held a diabetes clinic for the 5th & 6th grades for 2 days and then another 2 day clinic for 7th & 8th grades. Time was spent with the families and students. Screenings were done in 3 days with the help of 8 volunteers.

Suzey Delger ; Jamie Hackney's 18 yr. old daughter passed away. She had graduated from Kelly Walsh. While in New York City, Dana dyed her hair and it fell out.

Penny Mann ; She is new and is trying to figure out what to do. (Sunny Kaste has orientation manuals.)

LeAnn Cooper ; International School Nurse Conference was fun. A lot of resources (i.e. asthma and osteoporosis)

Andrea Ross - She has been busy with health fair in a rural school, her granddaughter and the flu clinic.

Pam Schultz ; She has a first grader who was diagnosed with diabetes 2 weeks ago.

Chris Bartholomew ; This year she has had 2 suicides in the high school. A family close to the school lost a 2 yr. old to Beta Strep. She attended the International School Nurse Conference. The Needs Assessments form needs to be filled out for the Education committee.

Susan Eikbush ; Here son is playing football right now. She started her Masters in technology. She has a power point for teaching non-licensed staff in her district about medications. She also, showed everyone about Epi-pens and hand washing.

Nancy Gallenger ; She has a diabetic with Asperger's who is a real challenge. She has 120 kindergartners and she only had to exclude 2.

Carol Schanefelt; A 10 year old hanged himself. She has hearing and vision screenings scheduled this month and needs to run her diabetic data.

Lynn Thompson; She has K-12 and 2 Special Ed downs syndrome students. Her daughter is 6 months and crawling.

Corrine Arross ; She read a poem and was encouraged to send it to national.

Connie Avey ; Thankful not to be the Treasurer. The closing of CY Junior High impacts Dean Morgan. (Over 1,000 students) 30 are missing shots ; a type #1 diabetic is in the Health Office daily. There is a Catherine Hackney Scholarship at Casper College.

Linda Farver ; Has 2 nurses in the district. She has been there 28 yrs. and loves it.

Leslie Johnson ; Was the school nurse for 5 years and left for 3 years. When no one applied for the position she applied. She works 3 _ days and knows the staff and students.

Karen Patton ; Is thankful for Leslie. Many environmental and food allergies among students

Barbara Anderson ; Has done Blood Borne Pathogens, flu clinic, CPR classes and a camp for 5th graders where she gave out 104 medications a day.

Dianne Kelter ; Worked at a camp for teenagers and college freshmen. She worked all summer and met a substitute school nurse from Texas who went to school for nursing in Casper.

Mikal Tyree ; Handed out the list of school nurses and would like changes marked. She enjoyed Jodi's walking program information.

Martha Newman ; This spring we need to have another president elect and secretary elected. Should we decrease the dues?

Sharon King ; Only went to one conference and learned a lot. Beginning of the school year is the same as everyone else. 2 School psychologists were hired.

Leslie Roberts ; She brought Sharon King to the meeting. She works at St. Johns' Medical Center in Jackson. (Cardiac rehab & health institute)

Tamie Walsh ; Coordinated School Health Program area to start is Staff Wellness. She has a new principal and vice-principal for the 4th year in a row. She will be a guest lecturer for the Coordinated School Health Program class at the University. 2nd grandchild due in March.

Jamie Ferdinand ; Went to National Conference, Mexico, Arizona and to the Grand Canyon. The 9th grade in Kelly Walsh now has 175 students.

Carol Boal ; She had a poster presentation at National ; one principal liked the idea and had an open house before school started ; All of the staff need to do a bio-board.

Christy Mantle ; Went to the Superintendent and requested an $8,000 raise or she would quit. Junior High decreased to 60% compliance. HIPPA impedes the schools.

Carol Wheeler ; 2nd year is very rewarding and challenging. She has all elementary schools.

Elaine Mosier ; Has middle and high school. She has a severe epileptic in the high school.

Janet Chimenti ; Daughter is better. She will have scans on Tuesday. She believes we need to start the school year off with humor. She had a large syringe and went as a "pile of puke".

Jodi Martenson ; Feels it is challenge to be the treasurer. School is okay. She has done Hand washing classes and poison awareness with the kindergartners ; she does a weekly wellness "blurb" for the staff and there was a 100-year anniversary article for nurses in the "Big Horn Basin Edition" of the newspaper.

2. Carol Boal did a presentation on Bone Health for 9-13 year olds. She passed out information to all.

4. Approval of Treasurer's Report ; 1st Tamie Walsh, 2nd Sharon King, approved

5. NASN Director's Report ;

A) NASN Newsline comes from the Board of Directors Office and Carol sends it on to us. Nov. 15th the Weekly Digest will be online and available to all NASN members. Carol is unsure what she will use in her newsletter. (Go to nasn.org for the weekly digest it is for members only, need the pin off of the wrapper from the NASN magazine)

B) Work groups are now called task forces. They are working on position statements, issue briefs, and research. The president's theme is Building Tomorrow Today. Operating Guidelines will be voted on in Charleston, S.C. on Oct. 29 ; Nov. 2 and go to Policy and Procedures.

C) Special committee to hire a search committee to find a new NASN executive director and to also decide where to have the main office. We have 2 offices at the present time, one in Maine and one in Colorado.

D) New grand baby due October 19th in St. Louis

E) Diversity throughout the US is amazing and educational

F) Seattle is site of the next NASN Conference. July 11th ; 14th. Pre-conference is July 10th.

6. Unfinished Business:

A. By-law: (Aligning WY with National)

Article II ; vote to propose to change to Carol Boal's section ; passed with hand vote. 2/3 present

Article III ; no student category but will add later ; okay to change and accept with amendment "simple majority present at a meeting" (Carol Boal will rewrite) ; 1st Corrine Arross, 2nd Carol Boal. Passed.

Article IV &endash; Change "adjournment of NASN annual meeting". 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Connie Avey. (President-elect must be more open to the president.) Support 2nd amendment "or". 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Tamie Walsh. All of Article IV passed

Article V - #2 strike out duties of Vice President ; strike out #6 on dues to NASN (start paying National dues in 2004-2005) 1st Carol Boal 2nd Tamie Walsh. #8 ; Keep a current list of school nurses members. 1st Connie Avey, 2nd Carol Boal. Passed.

Article VI - #3 Biannual statement. 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Tamie Walsh. Passed.

Article VII ; delete "via, etc." report to members. Strike C in Legislature and Membership; Strike B in Nominations. 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Tamie Walsh. Passed.

Article VIII ; Accept. 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Connie Avey. Passed.

Article IX ; Section 1 put "members, shall pay unified dues annually to NASN." Strike Section 2. 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Connie Avey. Passed.

Article X - Accept. 1st Carol Boal, 2nd Connie Avey. Passed.

Article XI ; "after presentation of actual receipts to treasurer" 1st Connie Avey, 2nd Carol Boal. Passed.

B. Committee endorses $50.00 spread between members and nonmembers for conference fees

A. After Christmas contact by e-mail and then follow up by phone calls 2 weeks after the e-mail.
