Old Business
Orientation conference in July. Carol Boal gave everyone a brochure. Conference will also be post to the Web. The brochure will be sent to all school superintendents and all school nurses not attending this meeting.
New Business
Chris Bartholomew presented on the contacts made with the BON. Cheyenne School Nurses Chris Bartholomew, Sue Fabien and Jan Nykodym contacted the BON in November with questions about how they work. They learned that the BON has no clue what School Nurses do and how hard it is to work under all mandates from the BON, Dept of Health and Dept of Ed. They did a presentation to BON in January. BON assigned this issue to Mary Beth Stephans BON. The main question was about delegation. School Principals are now delegating because nurses can not. There are law suits in other states, California, about these Principals practicing nursing without a license. Chris has provided a summary of their research of different states about delegation laws. BON said law is open for a different question now and they would like WSNA to give them a proposal on delegation. Chris said they needed to get back to WSNA membership before a WSNA proposal could be given to the BON. See handout for a summary of the information Chris has collected. Chris Bartholomew asked for people to help with the proposal. It was moved by Carol Boal and 2nd by Kathryn David to have a committee to work on this proposal to the BON. Motion past. Chris Bartholomew, Jan Nykodym, Sue Fabien, Karen Patton, Pam Shults and Suzey Delger will be the committee. Michelle Giffin has added a discussion site on the web site. It was suggested we use Survey Monkey for a survey on this proposal. We could also use the district reps to contact non WSNA school nurses.
Alicen Hardy has a power point to orient administration people to school nursing.
Carol has updated the WSNA Practice manual as she has been working on the presentation for the orientation conference. She asked for volunteers to review what she has. Alicen Harding, Jean Schroeder, and the Cheyenne nurses will review and give suggestions. Chris will have it scanned and/or type in to the computer so it can be shared.
Election: Suzey Delger nominated Alicen Hardy for WSNA President-Elect. Motion to cease nominations by Suzey Delger and seconded by Ruth Burns. The vote was unanimous. Carol Boal nominated Ruth Burns for WSNA Secretary. Motion to cease nominations by Sharon King and seconded by Suzey Delger. The vote was unanimous.
